Expanding our circles of influence through education.

It is widely accepted that education plays a vital role in promoting human rights and democracy. As an organisation whose purpose is to empower affordable and timeous access to justice through which individuals can enforce and defend their legal rights, it stands to reason that LegalWise has been committed to providing opportunities for students to access tertiary education through our Member Bursary Programme since 2006.

While receiving a bursary has obvious financial benefits, over the years we have come to realise that students require much more than finances in order to successfully complete their studies. As such, the Bursary Programme has evolved to include a mentorship aspect which provides our Bursary Holders with ongoing academic guidance and psychosocial support to provide them with skills which will enable them to succeed in their chosen career.

Graduates of the programme are afforded the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through the service level work placement which commences upon completion of their degree. The skills learned during this on-the-job training include attitude, flexibility, motivation, and business etiquette and provide our Bursary Holders with a solid foundation for future success.

As future Brand Ambassadors, our Bursary Holders become part of our family and part of our future. Twins Reshma and Reshmi Maharaj joined the LegalWise Member Bursary Programme in 2018 during the second year of their Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degrees and, upon graduation, joined LegalWise on a fulltime basis. “The Bursary Programme was a huge blessing to our mum. Through the bursary, we were equipped with the tips needed as students when it came to studying, dealing with stressful situations and time management. We are ecstatic and grateful to have become Champions of Justice. Our experience with LegalWise thus far has made us learn and grow, both personally and professionally.”

As the academic year commences on campuses across the country, aside from welcoming back four of our returning Bursary Holders who will continue with their studies, LegalWise is proud to introduce four new Bursary Holders who will be joining the programme this year.

We are confident that the benefit gained from the dedicated mentorship element will further enable our Bursary Holders to give their best to their studies and work towards attaining their dreams.
