LegalWise Member Bursary Programme 2019

It is widely accepted that education plays a vital role in promoting human rights and democracy. As an organisation which was founded to enforce and defend the rights of all South Africans, it stands to reason that LegalWise is committed to providing opportunities for students to access tertiary education through our Member Bursary Programme.

The LegalWise Member Bursary Programme offers a limited number of bursaries to Members and their children who are already studying fulltime at recognised tertiary institutions. Students studying towards a degree in the legal and business administration fields are considered. Bursary Holders not only benefit from financial support, but also from academic guidance and psycho-social support provided through the Programme. This year, we have introduced peer-to-peer mentoring which allows for alumni (students who have graduated from the Programme) to assist with the integration of new Bursary Holders into the Programme.

“We are constantly looking for innovative ways to support our Bursary Holders to ensure their academic success. The peer-to-peer mentoring system which pairs new Bursary Holders with alumni of the Programme, aims to capitalise on the effectiveness of peer-to-peer learning and encourage cross-campus collaboration”, says Lesley Haynes, Manager: Employee and Community Engagement.

LegalWise is proud to introduce the nine exceptional young people who will benefit from the programme for the 2019 academic year. The Bursary Holders were introduced to their peer mentors and given the opportunity to engage face to face at the Bursary Holder Induction workshop held in Johannesburg on 21 and 22 January 2019. We are confident that the dedicated mentorship element will further enable our Bursary Holders to give of their best to their studies and work towards attaining their dreams.
